The St. Louis Rams are trying to rebuild a broken team while maintaining some sort of competitive spirit. The team has an offense searching for youth at receiver while starting established veterans Torry Holt and Drew Bennett. St. Louis is set for the future with Steven Jackson at running back and is developing a young defensive line, accept for veteran Orlando Pace. Marc Bulger remains the quarterback without anyone in the wings. The signing of Trent Green made it official that in the far future neither Brock Berlin nor Bruce Gradowski is going to be starting.

The defense is building slowly picking key pieces like defensive tackle Adma Carriker, defensive end Chris Long, linebacker Will Witherspoon, and free safety Oshiomogho Atogwe. Until the kids take over, the familiar veterans will remain to make fans with Rams tickets not feel alienated.

At the very least, the special teams should improve drastically with famed kick returner Dante’ Hall and kicker Josh Brown joining the Rams at Edward Jones Dome.

The Rams will get a chance to post a decent record as the NFC West continues to be in flux. The Seahawks look like their grip on the division, which has been slipping for the past couple of years, is finally loose. Some experts are suggesting the Cardinals will over take them. Others think that Mike Martz will do wonders with a stagnant 49ers defense.

The NFC West is not as bad as the NFC South, but the division should not expect more than one team to make it to the NFL playoffs. In fact buying Super Bowl tickets for any of the team would be very premature, by a few years. The fact that the division is so open will make the games much more fun though.

Every match up will have consequences. Every Cardinals-Rams or Seahawks-49ers game will be on the minds of every fan in the division. This is a “four man enter, one man leave division”.  Sometimes, those are the most fun to watch.
