After finishing last in the NFC West, the Rams were busy trying to reinvigorate an offense that once struck fear into every defensive coordinator in the league. With Isaac Bruce gone, the St. Louis Rams are hoping Drew Bennett can fill his shoes as the number two receiver. Quarterback Marc Bulger is still in control of the offense, Steven Jackson is still a powerful running back, and Torry Holt is still a threat deep.
Al Saunders will try to turn the team back into the “Greatest Team on Turf”. Holt will move into the primary role as receiver and Randy McMichael will try and return to the seasons he had with the dolphins after only catching 39 passes last season. The young line will hopefully gel and allow Jackson to work his magic running the ball.
In fact if Jackson cannot run the ball well the Rams are going to be difficult to watch at Edward Jones Dome. St. Louis should see team playing for their livelihood. This season will decide if the appearance of competition is even too much.
Head coach Scott Linehan will have to hope for an offense along he lines of Patriots to cover for his defense. The problem is that the receivers are not very deep. Plentiful, but not deep. Dane Looker and return specialist Dante’ Hall will compete for the third spot in the offense. At the very least Dante’ Hall and recent acquisition Josh Brown solidify the special teams game.
Having last been to the playoffs in 2004, fans are starting to question their Rams season tickets and want something as a show of good faith after a 3-13 season last year. It was not just a 3-13 record, it was a last place finish in the NFC West. The division has been up for the taking almost every season despite the Seahawks appearance of control of the title.
This season may not be as much about Super Bowl ticket as a return to respectability.
